4.0 SUCCESSION PLANNING

1.0 SUCCESSION PLANNING

As part of Risk Management, the Organization must ensure that all key roles are occupied at all times.

To prepare for unexpected resignation or separation of employees occupying key roles, there has to be an identified successor for each key role and these successors are continuously being prepared to assume bigger responsibilities in the future.

This includes shadowing and on-the-job coaching.

Shadowing is a career development initiative where the identified successor is being given the opportunity to observe the incumbent “in action,” that is, how the incumbent is doing the actual work.

Key roles include:

  • Team Lead; and
  • Technical positions that are difficult to fill/hire.
